Another win for the UK as Getzwiller wins $1k NLHE

The UK won its third bracelet of the 2011 World Series of Poker on Wednesday as Sean Getzwiller outlasted two other players, American Jon “PearlJammer” Turner, and his fellow countryman Sadan Turker to win his first WSOP bracelet which came in the $1,000 buy-in No Limit Holdem tournament.

The tournament had a lot of action over the five days of play, including a marked cards controversy on Tuesday, but the most exciting part of the tournament took place when Getzwiller and Turker entered heads-up play virtually even in chips. From there the two Brits would battle for over 6-hours before Getzwiller was able to eliminate Turker and claim the $611,185 first-prize.

Getzwiller’s win marks the third bracelet for the UK in just 10 events, well beyond last year’s pace where the Brits captured five WSOP bracelets –which was good enough for the WSOP to be dubbed the year of the Brit, so I wonder what this year’s tournament series will be named!

Here is a look at the final table payouts from Event #8, the $1k NLHE tournament:

1. Sean Getzwiller – $611,185

2. Sadan Turker -$377,411

3. Jon Turner – $274,005

4. Max Weinberg – $201,433

5. Stefan Raffay – $149,392

6. Lawrence Riley – $111,753

7. Hunter Frey – $84,341

8. Daniel Haglund – $64,186

9. Odette Tremblay – $49,258
