Cody and Moorman headline WSOPE final table
With big names like Tony G, Erik Seidel, online phenom Chris “Moorman1” Moorman, Triple Crown Winner Jake Cody, and Patrik Antonius it was almost a foregone conclusion that the final table of the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event was going to be one for the ages. But the big names started to fall by the wayside early and often, and when the smoke cleared it was the game’s young stars who were left standing,
Headlining the 2011 WSOPE Final Table will be Jake Cody (who is second in chips) and Lock Poker Pro Chris Moorman (who will enter the final table in 4th place on the leader-board). All of the final table participants are looking up at chip-leader Elio Fox, after a dramatic double elimination late in the day left him as the overwhelming chip-leader.
Fox found himself all-in with Pocket Tens against both Arnaud Mattern (who had AA) and Alex Dovzhenko (who held AK). Fox saw his fortunes change when the flop cam T-9-6, and after fading the case Ace two-times he managed to eliminated both players and jumped to the top of the leader-board.
Here is a look at the final table chip counts of the eight remaining players in the 2011 WSOPE Main Event:
1. Elio Fox — 3,990,000
2. Jake Cody — 2,685,000
3. Dermot Blain — 2,405,000
4. Chris Moorman — 2,230,000
5. Brian Roberts — 2,000,000
6. Max Silver — 1,825,000
7. Moritz Kranich — 1,660,000
8. Shawn Buchanan — 1,015,000
The final table bubble boy was none other than Patrik Antonius, after he lost in dramatic fashion to Chris Moorman, who managed to suck-out on Antonius twice in the same hand! Moorman was in rough shape, with his tournament life on the line, holding A/7against the A/Q of Antonius. After an 8-8-6flop, a 6 on the turn was like a knife in the back of Antonius as it gave Moorman a split pot, and then the knife was twisted when a 7 hit on the river, giving the entire pot to Moorman, and crippling Antonius who was eliminated shortly thereafter.
Thursday’s final table could potentially see a new poker superstar crowned in the form of Jake Cody or Chris Moorman, and let’s not forget about Shawn Buchanan, who has had a stellar year in his own right in 2011, and has the chance to not only win the WSOPE Main Event, but could also surpass Ben Lamb for the WSOP Player of the Year award with a 1st or 2nd place finish.
