Doyle says no, and then yes, to WSOP Main Event

They all have different reasons –and one or two may actually show up to play anyway—but the list of big-name poker players who will be skipping the 2011 World Series of Poker Main Event seems to be getting longer, with the living legend Doyle Brunson being latest player to say “no mas” (***See update below***).

Brunson made the announcement in the way all septuagenarians spread news… via his Twitter account! In two consecutive Tweets on the 4th of July Brunson expressed his apparent disgust and plans to skip the 2011 Main Event, but did manage to inject a little of the notorious Doyle humor with a jab at the DOJ:

Busted… Total nightmare… Goodbye WSOP

No main event for me.maybe the DOJ will stake me.

Brunson joins Tony G (apparently skipping the WSOP out of boredom/on a whim/fodder for a blog post), Phil Ivey (“boycotting” the 2011 WSOP), Howard Lederer and Chris Ferguson (both of whom will be skipping the WSOP thanks to Full Tilt’s antics since Black Friday) on the list of poker elites not expected to be participating in the Main Event this time around.

Brunson famously boycotted the World Series of Poker in the 80’s when Jack Binion was pushed out by his sister Becky and basically exiled to Tunica, but this time around it’s unclear if Doyle is just titled, boycotting, or is simply not interested in partaking in what amounts to playing a week-plus of 12 hour days at the poker tables.

***UPDATE*** Doyle has changed his mind and already registered for the Main Event, the big kidder!!!

ok, I, offically am playing the ME.Do I feel good? No. Do I want to play? No. Am I playing my best? No. Am I gonna try my best? Damn right!!
