Early opinions of Caesars WSOP.com mixed

wsop liveThe launch of Caesars Interactive www.WSOP.com online poker room last week had the poker community buzzing, but the unbridled celebration over the second licensed online poker room in the United States was short-lived, and poker players started to do what poker players always do… critique!

It should be noted that virtually every online poker site goes through some growing pains right after launch (or even after a software overhaul), so don’t read too much into these early criticisms.

The Good

So far players seem to be almost unanimous that WSOP.com’s software is superior to that of Ultimate Poker (it should be noted that Ultimate Poker is on version 2.0 of their software).

People have also commented on the softness of the tables during the first week. With many of the early players likely being visitors to Nevada, or early-adopters who signed up during the WSOP membership drive this summer.

The Bad

While the software itself seems to be superior, a number of technical and logistical problems have hampered the site in the opening days of its launch.

The first major complaint regarding the WSOP.com website, and the one that seems to have the most staying power, was the strict deposit limits. According to multiple reports on the 2+2 poker forum, players were unable to deposit more than $500 in a single day. Additionally, credit and debit card deposits were being declined by many banks, likely a residual problem from UIGEA legislation.

Many posters have lamented the decision by Caesars to not accept cash deposits at Caesars locations, considering the holdover problem of UIGEA will likely hamper online deposits for the foreseeable future. The WSOP.com representative on 2+2 did reply to this suggestion, saying:

“Thank you for the feedback. As Bill mentioned, the current challenge with cage deposits is logistical. Changing the way money is processed in the casino and online is a highly involved process, especially with strict regulatory measures in place in order to protect our players.

“Our team is currently working on improving the deposit process, and cage deposits is a part of that conversation. We’ve passed along your comment for consideration, and will provide any additional information as it comes.”

Other complaints that have popped-up on the forums include the following:

* A higher rake than Ultimate Poker (A WSOP.com rep informed the community the rake was misquoted on the site and mirrored Ultimate Poker’s rake schedule)

* WSOP.com not Available to Sprint and other customers (Ultimate Poker had similar issues at launch)

* Players in Nevada being told they are “not in the country”

* Players getting randomly kicked out of games
