Coming into the 2010 World Series of Poker Hungarian players had a total of 1 WSOP win to their credit –Peter Trapley won the $5,000 No Limit Holdem Shootout in 2009—a total the Hungarians have already surpassed in 2010! One win will usually produce a quaint story in the local press; a second win will likely generate a number of stories on not just the winners, but the millions available at the WSOP and in poker.

The first Hungarian bracelet winner of 2010 was Peter Gelencser who captured the 2-7 Limit Triple Draw title in Event #7.

The latest Hungarian to demonstrate their mastery of poker was Valdemar Kwaysser who captured the $10,000 Pot Limit Holdem Championship.

The wins will likely spark a huge interest in poker in Hungary –remember what happened to the Australian poker landscape after Joe Hachem’s WSOP Main Event win in 2005—sending numerous Hungarians to the online poker tables, as well as home games, and local card-rooms.

One thing is for certain, you can expect a much larger Hungarian contingent at the 2011 WSOP thanks to the performances of Peter Gelencser, Valdemar Kwaysser, and Peter Trapley.
