The WSOP has been taking up most of the post on PNB for the last few weeks, so unfortunitly we have missed out on some other stories from the last 2 weeks. Here is the stories we have missed.

Woods Runs Deep Again At World Series
Darren Woods is a team 888Poker player and was one of the lesser known British pros at this years WSOP, well he was lesser known last week, but now his name is widely recognised after winning his first bracelet and he has just missed out on another.
Woods triumphed in event 19 last week, and going into the final day of event 27 he had a great chance of claiming his second bracelet, but in the end it was not to be with Woods finishing in 11th place and he collected another $28,990 to add to his winnings from last week. He has certainly made an impact here in the United Kingdom and he has turned more than a few heads in America.
The final 14 players were loaded with Americans, 12 in fact, and included the likes of Barry Greenstein, Nick Schulman and Justin Smith, but it was the runner-up in this same event last year Daniel Idema who would walk away with the top prize of $378,642.
Idema hails from Canada and was the only other non American besides Woods in the final 14 players. He beat previous bracelet winners Greenstein and Schulman during a tense final table and banished the memories of last year. At one stage last year during his heads-up battle with eventual winner Matt Keikoan Idema held a 12-1 chip advantage, but even that was not enough for him to claim his first WSOP bracelet. That experience must have helped his game because he came back stronger this year and this victory is sure to banish those memories.
It was a good day for other British players yesterday as Team GB go in search of yet another bracelet. Chris Moorman 3rd, Daniel Morgan 12th, Samuel Grafton 14th and Rupert Elder 18th kept the British flag flying all finishing in the top 18 of event 27. Moorman will have been disappointed as he continues his search for that first elusive bracelet but the $271,800 he received will have softened the blow a little. There are still 27 bracelets to be awarded in this years annual event, plenty of time for Team GB, and Darren Woods maybe to add to our already healthy three.
PokerStars UKIPT Newcastle – Final Day Today
The PokerStars UKIPT has stopped off in Newcastle and the latest leg will draw to a close this evening when the tour will have a new champion. All of the final eight players are from either the United Kingdom or Ireland, which is another great advert for British and European poker.
As always with all of the events run by PokerStars there was a healthy turnout and this weekend was no different. A total of 554 players entered the Main Event, and today Monday we are down to just eight. Local boy Gareth Walker entered yesterday with great hopes of adding to his win in Nottingham earlier in the year, but he made little impression on the day and was eventually busted in 52nd place and collected £970 for his efforts.
The final table has two remaining PokerStars qualifiers, and they are Jonathan Gawith and Tim Slater. Both will be looking for an early double up if they are to upset the leaders who have a significant advantage over the rest. The final eight players and their chip stacks are listed below.
Final Table Chip Count
Richard Sinclair – 1938000
Rajesh Verma – 1343000
Rakesh Paul Gupta – 958000
James Morris – 926000
Jonathan Gawith – 898000
Tim Slater – 858000
Tadhg Ryan – 836000
Barry Foley – 446000
By the time you read this play will be well under way at Aspers Casino as the eight remaining players battle it out for the first prize of £67,000, and we will of course bring you all the winners and losers in an updated article tomorrow.
Sinclair Leads From Start To Finish In UKIPT Newcastle
Richard Sinclair started the final day of the PokerStars UKIPT Newcastle as chip leader, and he was able to see it through to the end and claim the first prize of £67,000. In winning the title he became the first Scottish player to win a regular PokerStars UKIPT event.
Sinclair may be a new name to many of you, but he has cashed twice before at the WSOP, both in the main event for the last two years, and has a runner-up finish in the Sunday warm-up cashing for $100,000. So this result came as no surprise, not to Sinclair anyway. The final table only lasted for five hours yesterday as play was fast and aggressive, with Sinclair leading from the front. Special mention goes to Barry Foley who started the day as the short stack, but he climbed his way up the ladder to eventually finish in fourth place.
The final hand saw all the chips in the middle with Sinclair holding pocket rockets against Verma’s Kh Qh. Game Over. The final table placings and payouts are listed below.
Final Table Placings and Prize Money.
1st: Richard Sinclair – £67,000
2nd: Raj Verma – £40,400
3rd: Rakesh Paul Gupta – £24,700
4th: Barry Foley – £18,100
5th: Tim Slate – £14,050
6th: Jonathan Gawith – £11,210
7th: Tadhg Ryan – £8,580
8th: James Morris – £6,510
Sinclair is heading to Vegas and the World Series any day now. Look out for the name Richard Sinclair, if he plays like he did this weekend in the Main Event he could be the latest British player to come home with a bracelet. You heard it here first remember.
Value To Be Had In The $5 MTT’s
Every now and then we try and find the best and cheapest online events for our readers to play. This month we have been scouring the sites and found a few that we may be of interest to you all.
Bwin Poker are our first choice and they have a $5.50 re-buy event everyday at 7pm. Not a re-buy I hear you cry , but this one comes with a guaranteed prizepool of $15,000, so it is well worth taking a look at.
You can’t have a list and not include PokerStars in it somewhere can you. Each night at 8pm they run the biggest $5.50 MTT available, and with a guaranteed prize pool of $20,000 on offer you would be mad not to give it a go.
Bet365 Poker hold a freeze-out every night at 8.10pm and these events usually attract a smallish field compared with some, but that means more prize money for the winners and with a prizepool of $4,000 on offer you may like to give it a try.
PKR Poker hold a $5.50 Deep Stack event, but this is a once a week affair on a Friday at 7.30pm. It may only be held once a week but again it has a guaranteed prize pool of $2,000 attached to it, so yet again it has got to be worth a visit.
Last but not least comes Gala Poker. Gala get into the top five of the best value $5.50 MTT’s because their event is a turbo and starts at the sensible time of 6pm. A quick event and generally a small field in attendance this event has got to be worth investing in and take your chance at claiming your share of the $3,500 guaranteed prize pool.
These type of events may not be everybody’s cup of tea, but with some careful negotiation of the occasional soft field there are some rich pickings available. Go on try some different this month it may be worth your while.
Win WPT Package With PartyPoker
The World Poker Tour is heading East next month and will be stopping off for the first time in Slovenia. If you play at PartyPoker you could be there too by winning a package worth $7,200. PartyPoker are one of the leading poker sites to offer these kind of great packages, and again they have come up trumps with their latest offering.
The WPT is getting bigger and bigger and the latest venue is the Grand Casino Portoroz in Slovenia. Satellites are already up and running and will run until 3rd July. There is the usual mix of daily freerolls and $1 re-buys, and weekly qualifiers are held on a Sunday evening so you still have two chances of grabbing a great package.
The $7,200 package includes your buy-in to the main event, a nice cash sum of $1,300 in spending money, your accommodation and some of the best hospitality that PartyPoker can offer.
PartyPoker professional Tong G will be in Slovenia next month and he is well known for his outspoken comments. He had the following to say when asked about his chances of taking down the forthcoming event. “For all sense and purposes this will be a very Italian tournament with Slovenians thrown in too. The prospect makes me very hungry. I am looking forward to going to Slovenia, I’m going to bring an army of players and I know if it is not me one of them is going to win.”
So Tony is as confident as ever ahead of the event, but you could be there too and challenging the Australian for a WPT title courtesy of PartyPoker.
Moorman And Ulliott In Contention At WSOP
The Brits took the early honours at this years WSOP claiming three early bracelets, but they appear to have gone off the boil in the last 10 days and at the time of writing have yet to add to that total. That could all change in event number 35 though, as two well known players are still left in the field.
Those two players are Chris Moorman and Dave ‘The Devilfish’ Ulliott. The event in question is the Six- Handed Pot Limit Omaha Championships which attracted a starting field of 507 players, and a prizepool well in excess of $2million. After two days play Ulliott finds himself in 8th place and Moorman 13th. Both have plenty still to do though as they are well adrift of current leader Gregory Brooks who holds a massive chip stack of 1,294,000 and is some 403,000 ahead of his nearest challenger David Chiu. A full list of the remaining players and their chips is listed below.
Remaining 15 Players Chip Stacks
Gregory Brooks – 1,294,000
David Chiu – 891,000
Michael McDonald – 827,000
Jared Bleznick – 710,000
Jason Mercier – 619,000
Joseph Ressler – 564,000
Hans Winzeler – 446,000
Dave Ulliott – 415,000
Steven Merrifield – 357,000
Robert Fellner – 343,000
David Callaghan – 314,000
Peter Jetten – 310,000
Chris Moorman – 208,000
Daniel Fuhs – 193,000
Shawn Bennani – 130,000
When play gets under way again tonight Brooks will be confident of taking down the title, but this is Pot Limit Omaha and anything is still possible. Chiu will be looking for his fifth bracelet and Mercier his second, but the two Brits could still upset the party and claim the fourth bracelet of this years annual event for British players. A win for Ulliott would be his second, and should Moorman come out on top it would be his first major win and first bracelet at the World Series.
Sky Poker – First ‘UK Cash Game’ Tonight!
Tonight at 11pm Sky TV will be screening the first of a six part series, the UK Cash Game. SKY Poker already have their own dedicated channel, Channel 865, where they regularly show events like the Bounty Hunter and Primo Live, but tonight will see them trying something new.
There will be a great number of players who are invited to play, and they include Neil Channing, Ian Frazer, Nik Persaud, Jamie Burland, Sam Razavi and Julian Thew. The buy-in for tonight’s show is £500, which is relatively low compared to some TV cash games, but that shouldn’t deter you from watching what should be a great programme. Personally I always find these kind of games offer up a great opportunity to learn and gain experience from some of the UK’s leading players, and tonight should be no different.
Claire Cook who is a TV producer at Sky Poker had the following to say when asked about the new series. “Sky Poker’s UK Cash Game is an exciting addition to Channel 865. I believe we found the perfect combination between entertainment and great poker, and with some cutting edge technology in the table and card set up we could get through more hands per session, which means more great poker for our viewers to watch.”
Richard Orford and Tony Kendall regularly commentate on Sky’s other events and they will be in the commentary box tonight as they take you through the hands. Make sure you tune in later tonight, but don’t worry if you miss the first show as there will be repeats aired throughout the week on Channel 865.
Upgraded Software At PKR
PKR offer one of the best poker experiences anywhere with their innovative 3D graphics and they have already won awards for their efforts, but not content with that they have gone a step further and have just introduced a major upgrade to their software.
How could PKR improve on what is already a great product, what have they done differently I hear you ask? Well they have listened to their customers and as a result the following changes have been made. Auto-top up and default buy-ins are two of the major changes, along with new emotes and a host of new player statistics. They also have a new ‘PKR Lite’ option available to its members. PKR Lite offers players the chance to play with or without 3D, and is for those that do not have the option of 3D play.
The Chief Operating Officer at PKR Poker is Leo Walters and he is delighted with the new software, and he had the following to say when asked about the changes. “These changes we’ve made, particularly with the default buy-in and auto top-up features, are very much driven by player feedback. These new features, along with many new customer-centric features coming later in the year, really demonstrate PKR’s commitment to our core Poker audience.”
Good to see that PKR are listening to its customers and giving them what they want. After all they are the people that pay these peoples wages so long may it continue.
