It took a while but by the end of the 2013 World Series of Poker women were able to put together an fairly impressive collective resume, with a couple of open-event bracelet wins. While the 2013 performance wasn’t quite as good as the historic 2012 run female poker players had at the WSOP, it’s still one of the historically best WSOP’s for the ladies. In this column I’ll take a look at the four top-performing women at the 2013 WSOP.

Kristen Bicknell

By the time the Ladies Championship tournament rolled around it looked like the ladies were going to get shutout in open-events this year, but Kristen Bicknell’s win in the Ladies Championship seemed to have lit a fire under her fellow female players, considering they would win two more bracelets in the final 10 events before the Main Event.

Dana Castaneda

In Event #54 Dana Castaneda became the first women not named Vanessa Selbst to win an open-event bracelet since 2007. Castaneda bested a field of $2,883 players to win the $1,000 buy-in No Limit Holdem tournament, and pocketing $454,207 in the process.

Castaneda is a complete unknown in poker, with just two other small cashes on her resume, all of which came this summer in Las Vegas. Needless to say, with a $450k payday she will likely be entering quite a few tournaments in the future.

Loni Harwood

Harwood was already having a splendid WSOP before she pulled out a win in Event #60, a $1,500 No Limit Holdem tournament. During the 2013 WSOP Harwood earned six cashes, made three final tables, and won a bracelet. Her performance puts her in rare company, as she joined Cyndi Violette as the only female players to make three final tables in a single WSOP, and her $609,017 payday in Event #60 is the largest by any woman in WSOP history (sans Annette Obrestad’s WSOPE win back in 2007).

Jackie Glazier

Glazier is already among the elite female tournament players in poker, and she nearly won a bracelet in the 2012 WSOP when she finished second to Greg Ostrander in the $3,000 NLHE tournament at last year’s WSOP, so it should come as no surprise that she was the Last Woman Standing in the 2013 WSOP Main Event.

Unfortunately Glazier was eliminated in 31st place, but the $229k payday did send her career tournament earnings over the $1 million mark; pretty good numbers for someone who has only really been competing in tournaments for five years.
