Nobody can argue that Men Nguyen isn’t one of the most prolific tournament players in poker history, and after a long drought dating back to 2003 Men finally captured his 7th WSOP bracelet in 2010 –Men has had an astonishing four WSOP Circuit wins in the interim.

Yesterday Men had a chance to capture his 8th bracelet after making a miraculous comeback, but fell just short of becoming the first player in 2010 with 2 WSOP wins. Nguyen started the day as an extremely short-stack in the $5,000 6-Handed No Limit Holdem tournament but was able to claw and scratch his way back into contention. When Men took on Jeffrey Papola in heads-up play many observers were thinking Men’s hot run would continue, and the man known as “The Master” would tie Eric Seidel for 5th place on the all-time WSOP bracelet list with 8.

Alas, it was Papola who would stop Men’s hot streak, and pick up his 1st WSOP win.

Men is a lightning rod type of player in the poker world, allegations of soft-playing, collusion, and outright cheating follow him everywhere (although none of these allegations have ever been proven), but Men just simply shrugs these accusations and continues on with his beaming smile. Even so, many poker pro respect Men Nguyen who is one of the most charitable people in poker, and has coached many of the successful Vietnamese poker pros who currently inhabit the poker world.
