Men crash the party at WSOP ladies tournament

A variety of reasons were given by the half a dozen or so who registered for the $1,000 Ladies Tournament yesterday, and regardless of the reason given tournament officials were not buying it, and many openly expressed their anger with the crashers. Tournament officials were even threatening bans for the men who decided to compete in the event,

WSOP Director of Communications expressed his feelings by saying: “We will have our repercussions against any man that entered the ladies tournament. There are consequences for actions, and they’ll pay the price. Players with no class can have their services refused at any time.”

The debate has been raging for some time now over whether there should be a separate women’s tournament –poker doesn’t offer any physical or mental advantage to one sex or the other. Whether they think it or not, by entering the event and then ridiculing women –as Shaun Deeb did by dressing in drag, and another male thought it would be funny to use a tampon to protect his hole cards—they are not only demonstrating their own feelings about women players, but are also the spirit of the tournament seems to be lost on the detractors: The tournament isn’t about the gender equality of poker; the ladies tournament is in place because for whatever reason women are still a huge minority in the poker world!

It will be interesting to see the fallout from yesterday’s actions.
