Musumeci misses first WSOP win by a woman since 2008

Women have been making final tables left and right at the 2012 World Series of Poker, and on Wednesday it was former Bodog Poker Pro Amanda Musumeci who would take her shot at becoming the first female player to win an open-event bracelet at the WSOP since Vanessa Selbst in 2008.

Musumeci began the final table as one of the chip-leaders, but by the time Duy Ho was eliminated in 5th place Ashkan Razavi had a massive chip-lead over the remaining players, holding over 9 million chips while his opponents all had between 1 million and 2 million.

Musumeci wasn’t the only big name at the final table as she was joined by a pair of two-time bracelet winners (remarkably both players won their bracelets in a single WSOP tournament series) Brian Rast and Greg Mueller. The duo was among the first casualties at the final table, finishing in 7th and 6th place.

By the time heads-up play rolled around Musumeci was well behind Razavi but she managed to make a match of it, doubling and passing the 3-million chip-mark at one point, before simply being ground-down by Razavi’s massive chip-stack.

Here is a look at the final table payouts from the $1,500 NLHE reentry event:

1. Ashkan Razavi – $781,398

2. Amanda Musumeci – $481,643

3. Derrick Huang – $347,228

4. Ryan Olisar – $252,379

5. Duy Ho – $185,378

6. Brian Rast – $137,632

7. Greg Mueller – $103,258

8. Benjamin Reinhart – $78,259

9. Dien Le – $59,969

So far in the 2012 World Series of Poker women have been having their best WSOP to date, with Musumeci becoming the eighth female player to book a Top 10 finish in the first 10 events.

1. Patricia Baker finished as the runner-up in Event #1, the $500 Casino Employee tournament

2. Vanessa Selbst finished 4th in Event #2, the $1,500 NLHE tournament

3. Annette Obrestad made the Elite 8 in Event #3, a $3,000 Heads-Up PLO/NLHE tournament

4. Xuan Liu finished 6th in Event #4, a $1,500 Stud 8 or better tournament

5. Bonnie Rossi finished 8th in Event #4, a $1,500 Stud 8 or better tournament

6. Marsha Waggoner finished 9th in Event #4, a $1,500 Stud 8 or better tournament

7. Caroline Hermesh finished 7th in Event 7: $1,500 Seven Card Stud

8. Amanda Musumeci finished 2nd in Event #9: $1,500 NLHE reentry

With the way the WSOP has been going it appears that women have a very good chance of breaking their cold-spell dating back to the 2008 WSOP when Vanessa Selbst won the $1,500 PLO event, and could be the year that a female player makes the final table of the Main Event –which has only happened one time in the history of the WSOP, Barbara Enright made the final table of the 1995 Main Event.
