Player stealing poker chips banned from WSOP

Over on the Full Tilt Poker blog, Michael Craig wrote an interesting entry revolving around a very unusual situation at the World Series of Poker. It seems just before a 20-minute break an all-in situation occurred in the $1,000 No Limit Holdem event and as it unfolded the rest of the players left the table –eager to add a few valuable minutes to their break.

Well, it turns out the winner of the pot thought he had an excellent hand, and deserved to win more chips than the other player had left, so as he scooped in the pot he also pulled in a stack of chips from the seat next to him –remember the other players departed.

When the theft was discovered WSOP officials went to the videotape and did indeed catch the player stealing chips. He was not only escorted out by security, but World Series of Poker director Jack Effel said, “He’ll be banned from the World Series forever.”

There is still no word on who the player was, but he has been described as a 50-something male wearing a baseball hat. The stolen chips were returned to the player, and after some discussion it was decided to remove the offending players chips from play.
