The British invade the World Series of Poker
Another busy day at the 2010 World Series of Poker is in the books, and the action is really starting to heat up. Yesterday saw two Champions crowned: English poker pro Praz Bansi captured the $1,500 NLHE title, while a Canadian amateur poker player, Aadam Daya, who moonlights as a business analyst, won the $1k NLHE tournament.
In other action two more final table lineups were set, with David Chiu leading the final 8 competitors in the $1,500 2-7 Triple Draw event, and three more Brits, including top pro Neil Channing, among the final 6 players in the $5k NLHE Shootout event. There aren’t any Englishmen at the 2-7 final table, but there is an Irishman, Peter Gelencser. Perhaps 2010 will be the second British Invasion of American pop culture?
Yesterday also saw the start of another $1,500 No Limit Holdem poker tournament. With 2,341 entrants, event #8 is the third event at the 2010 WSOP to break the 2,000 entrant mark. Of those 2,341 players only 270 made it through to Day 2, with Phil Hellmuth lurking near the top of the leader-board in 16th place, itching to win his 12th gold bracelet.
