ONEDROPWe already knew that the Big One for One Drop $1 million buy-in tournament would be returning to the World Series of Poker tournament series, but details about the tournament were scant; that was until the WSOP issued a press release this past week.

The 2012 Big One for One Drop was more successful than anyone imagined it could be, easily meeting the 48-player cap the tournament had set –in fact players with $1 million in hand were actually turned away!—which is why it’s quite strange to see another cap imposed on the 2014 version. The cap for the2014 Big One for One Drop tournament is set at 56 players according to the press release.

The 2014 Big One for One Drop will not be held at the Rio, instead it will be moved to another Caesars Entertainment property, Caesars Palace. The tournament will run from June 29th to July 1st, 2014. Once again 11.1% of the $1,000,000 entry fee will go directly to the One Drop charity, and players will have to put down a $50,000 security deposit to hold their seat.

In the press release, One Drop founder and poker enthusiast Guy Laliberte stated, “It was a terrific inaugural event in 2012 with ONE DROP raising nearly $5.7 million from the BIG ONE event. There is still a lot of work to be done to ensure access to water for all. I have no doubt that the poker community will once again live up to its reputation for generosity by helping to transform live sustainably.”

In 2012 the Big One for One Drop tournament was won by Antonio Esfandiari, who won over $18 million and the custom One Drop WSOP bracelet, while runner-up Sam Trickett pocketed a cool $10 million.

In 2013 One Drop hosted two WSOP tournaments. The first was a $111,111 Super-High-Roller tournament, and the other was affectionately called The Little One for One Drop, a $1,111 buy-in rebuy tournament.

About One Drop

ONE DROP—an initiative of Cirque du Soleil Founder Guy Laliberté—strives to ensure that water is accessible to all, today and forever.

Water is the most critical challenge facing the XXIst century. Although it is essential to life, nearly 800 million people lack access to water while 2.5 billion are deprived of access to adequate sanitation. By 2025, 5.3 billion people—two-thirds of the world’s population—could lack access to enough water to meet their basic daily requirements.

Water is everyone’s business. All of society’s actors need to be at the table to solve the world’s water access and management challenges. Investing in water projects is good, but if we want to stop throwing money at the problem, investing in sustainable water and management projects that promote self-reliance is even better.

Using a one-of-a-kind sustainable intervention model, ONE DROP develops innovative water access and management projects which promote self-reliance in disadvantaged, rural and semi-rural regions of Latin America, West Africa and Asia. Since its inception, ONE DROP has transformed the lives of 300,000 human beings. By 2017, we expect we will have provided access to safe water to 1 million people worldwide.
