Earlier this month the opening tournament at the World Series of Poker Circuit Series in Hammond, Indiana set the record for the most entrants in a WSOP Circuit Series tournament drawing an impressive 1,611 players for the $350 tournament. Yesterday it was the $,500 Main Event that broke another record, attracting 872 players, and in the process shattering the mark for the highest turn-out for a WSOP Circuit Main Event , which previously stood at 538.

Of the 872 players who registered for the $1,500 tournament a mere 162 survived the day, with chip-leader Jim Kasputis sitting on a chip-stack of around 360,000. Despite losing most of the big-name talent on Day 1 –Jason Mercier, Tom Marchese, Matt Stout, Faraz “The Toilet” Jaka, and Frank Kassela to name a few, the tournament leader-board still boasts the names Adam “Roothlus” Levy, David Baker, and Allen Bari. Basri finished the day with an impressive chip-stack with over 250,000 chips.

16, 40-minute levels were played on Day 1 of the tournament, and 10 more 40-minute levels are scheduled to be played on Day 2, at which point the structure will switch to 1-hour levels; which might slow down the eliminations a bit. Day 2 of the WSOP Circuit Series Hammond event will begin at 1PM local time.
