WSOP Notebook: ADZ Twitter-war, epic HU battle and more

wsop 2013This year PokerNewsBoy.com will be bringing you all of the important news from the World Series of Poker, but we’ll also be scouring the Internet for some of the little tidbits that fall through the cracks. Our daily WSOP Notebook column will focus on anything controversial, funny, or just downright strange, so if you happen across an interesting bit of information please post it here: OFFICIAL 2013 News and Notes and if we find it newsworthy it will make the column along with a special thanks to the person who brought it to light.

ADZ vs. the World

Just before the WSOP Matt “ADZ124” Marafioti got into a bit of a Twitter dustup with another poker pro where the two debated whether they should fight in a parking lot or in a boxing ring, and as anyone plugged into the poker world knows, ADZ has a bit of a history on Twitter – Lauren Kling, William Reynolds, Eric Ramsey, and Jon Augiar being just a few of Matt’s targets in the past.

So you know the 2013 WSOP has officially begun now that Matt Marafioti has had his first Twitter battle of the series, this time going man-y-mano with Griffin Benger, better known in the poker world as Flush_Entity. As is generally the case with these battles hashed-out on Social Media, it devolved into what kind of jewelry do you wear, what percentage of yourself do you have in tournaments, and how big is your… House.

You can take a look at the latest Twitter battle on the two parties Twitter accounts:

Personally I still don’t know what to make Marafioti, but like other people in the poker world (see Matt Glantz) I find him highly entertaining, especially during the doldrums of the WSOP.

The return of Zugwat

During the poker boom there was an online poker player who was tearing up the online tables, Zugwat. Zugwat’s real name was Steve Silverman, and after earning over $1 million playing online poker he decided to leave the poker world for a few years. But now he seems to be back in full force, this time at the live tournament tables.

In 2010 Silverman was featured in a Washington Post story, which is a really interesting read about the ups and downs of a high-stakes poker player: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/10/01/AR2010100105833.html

In 2012 Silverman made a huge score at the WSOP, finishing 3rd in the $10k PLO event for nearly $300k, and so far in 2013 he’s won the High-Roller tournament at the EPT Grand Final for over $1 million, and picked-up another 3rd place finish in the $3k NLHE Shootout event at the 2013 WSOP.

Sulsky vs. Galfond… LIVE

This Tweet from FakeGusHansen pretty much sums up a match in yesterday’s quarterfinals of the $10k Heads-Up Championship:

@FakeGusHansen

Being sexy, funny and good at poker isn’t fair. Phil Galfond and Sauce123 playing in the Quarterfinals of the 10k Heads Up isn’t either.

After battling back and forth it was Ben Sulsky who put away Phil Galfond to advance to the Elite 8 of the event –Sulsky won his next match and is now one of four players remaining in the tournament.
