WSOP Notebook: Record set, One Drop names and more

Posted by Steve Ruddock on Jun 30, 2012 Posted in WSOP News | No Comments »

There were a lot of interesting tidbits coming out of the Rio on Friday including a few new names being added and subtracted from the Big One for One Drop entry list. We also saw a record set on Friday during the $5k NLHE tournament, as well as a very interesting player near the top of the leader-board in the event.

Konstantin Puchov sets WSOP cashes record

A few days ago I noticed Konstantin Puchov was extremely close to breaking the record for the most cashes in a single year at the WSOP (a record currently held by Nicolay Edvakov) and yesterday the Russian managed to tie the record, with plenty more events to go. Puchov is now in the money in Event #50, the $5k NLHE tournament, and has already picked-up his tenth cash of the 2012 WSOP.

Puchov still has nearly 10 other events to enter at the 2012 WSOP, as well as the seven events that will take place at the 2012 WSOP Europe later this year.

Here is a look at the 10 events he has made the money in so far:

* Event #5 $1,500 Pot-Limit Holdem

* Event #6 $5,000 NLHE Mixed Max

* Event #14 $1,500 NLHE Shootout

* Event #30 $1,500 2-7 Draw Lowball

* Event #33 $1,000 NLHE

* Event #35 $2,500 Mixed Holdem

* Event #37 $2,500 8-Game Mix

* Event #44 $1,000 NLHE

* Event #46 $2,500 NLHE

* Event #50 $5,000 NLHE

Man featured in Locked-Up Abroad going for WSOP gold

If you’ve heard the name Erik Aude before but not in the poker world it’s because the actor/poker-player was featured in a recent episode of the hit cable show Locked-Up Abroad, detailing his time spent in an Afghanistan prison. Aude is among the chip leaders heading into Day 3 of the $5k NLHE event, currently sitting in 4th place on the leader-board with 688,000 chips.

It’s highly unlikely that the pressure of a WSOP tournament will get to him considering his plight from just a few years ago!

The Big One for one Drop tournament got a little bit of an Italian infusion this week as Tom Marchese and Mike Mizrachi both declared they would be playing in the event.
