Just days after the World Poker Tour set an attendance record in Prague for the largest WPT tournament ever held in Europe it was the European Poker Tour’s turn as the 2011 EPT Prague broke its own record for the largest EPT Prague event in the eight year history of the tournament series, as well as the largest poker tournament ever held in Czech Republic. Perhaps having the World Series of Poker Main Event runner-up hailing from Trinec, Czech Republic has already started a poker boom in the country?

A total of 722 players registered over the two Day 1 starting flights for the EPT Prague Main Event, creating a huge prize-pool of over €3.5 million, with €775,000 set aside for the winner of the tournament.

As is usually the case with high-profile EPT tournaments, the stars were out in full force, with big names like Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Liv Boeree, Jonathan Duhamel, Kevin MacPhee, Lex Veldhuis, William Thorson, Martin Jacobson, and Eugene Katchalov all taking part on Day 1b of the tournament. The survivors from Day 1a will join the likes of Chris Moorman, Martin Staszko, Gus Hansen, and James Akenhead on Day 2.

The two starting flights will now be combined for Wednesday’s Day 2; here is a look at the Top 10 chip counts from each day:

The EPT Prague will also be the backdrop for a preplanned high-stakes cash-game hosted by Daniel “jungleman12” Cates and ThePoekrFarm.com that will be streamed live at ThePokerFarm.com (on a 15 minute delay). The game will feature blinds of $50/$100 or $100/$200, with a minimum buy-in of $10,000. The cash-game came about after Cates was unable to procure any challengers for a $100,000 Heads-Up Challenge Match.

So far the players who have been seated at the high-stakes table include, Cates, Luke “FullFlush” Schwartz, November Niner Eoghan O’Dea, Tobias Reinkemeier, Alexander “AlexKP” Petersen, Scott Baumstein and Phillip Gruissem.
