Mediocre turnout for EPT London Main Event

EPT_LONDONThe PokerStars UKIPT/EPT London tournament series has seen some huge fields leading up to the EPT London Main Event, so it was a bit of a surprise when the Main Event’s attendance tally topped-out at just 604 players, 643 ort of last year’s number, and well off the 848 entrants the tournament attracted in 2010.

After the massive turnout for the EPT Barcelona –which kicked-off Season 10 of the PokerStars EPT—hopes were high for a strong showing at the London stop, but it just never came to fruition. Here is a look at the attendance numbers at the EPT London historically:

* Season 1: 175 entries

* Season 2: 242 entries

* Season 3: 398 entries

* Season 4: 392 entries

* Season 5: 596 entries

* Season 6: 730 entries

* Season 7: 848 entries

* Season 8: 691 entries

* Season 9: 647 entries

* Season 10: 604 entries

Still, first place is worth nearly $1,000,000, and 604 entrants in a £5,000 buy-in tournament is nothing to scoff at.

As the tournament heads into Day 3 just 106 of the 604 entrants remain in the hunt. Among the players looking to add an EPT London title to their poker resume is 2013 WSOP November Niner Mark Newhouse, who finished Day 2 of the EPT London in 6th place.

Other notables still in contention include Player of the year contender Paul Volpe, Dave Ulliot, Dan Smith, Kyle Julius, Barry Greenstein, Mike Watson, Steven “Zugwatt” Silverman, and Theo Jorgensen.

Here is a look at the Top 10 chip-counts heading into Day 3:

1. Tudor Purice – 628,200

2. Yngve Steen – 576,400

3. Ludovic Geilich – 487,100

4. Joey Lovelady – 447,500

5. Andrew Moseley – 436,000

6. Mark Newhouse – 380,800

7. Robin Ylitalo – 362,200

8. Ruben Velasco – 350,900

9. Wai Kin Yong – 307,200

10. Daniel Reijmer – 305,800

Of the 104 players who will return to the tables on Wednesday only 84 will make the money; with a min-cash worth just over £9,000. Here is a look at the payouts for the final table of the EPT London Main Event:

* 1st place: £560,980

* 2nd place: £349,200

* 3rd place: £249,850

* 4th place: £193,340

* 5th place: £152,320

* 6th place: £119,225

* 7th place: £88,175

* 8th place: £60,640
