Mercier comes up just short in EPT Super High Roller

ept_monte_carloJust when I thought I had the complete list of young German poker players nailed-down, what do I see when I look at the PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) Grand Final Super-High-Roller payouts; yup, 1st place Max Altergott, Germany! So now I’ll have to put Altergott on my WSOP watch-list along with Schemion, Gruissem, Spindler, Nitsche, Rettenmaier, Reinkemeier, Finger, and Quoss (I know I’m probably missing a few names there as well) after the high-stakes cash-game regular cashed in his first live tournament to the tune of €1.7 million.

The $100k buy-in Super-High-Roller tournament put a stamp on an exciting EPT Grand Final, with a number of star-studded final tables, and four players earning seven-figure paydays –two in the Super-High-Roller event, one in the standard €25k High-Roller tournament, and one on the Main Event.

Mercier had a mammoth EPT Grand Final series. In addition to his runner-up finish in this tournament, the Team PokerStars Pro also made the final table of the EPT Grand Final Main Event (Mercier finished 7th), as well as winning the Open-Faced Chinese Poker side event. Overall Mercier pocketed about $1.7 million while in Monte Carlo –just about enough to cover his Hotel and room-service bills, and pay for a couple of drinks at the bar for his near-two-week stay.

Altergott outlasted a pretty stacked final table (although not quite the Murderer’s Row of the EPT Grand Final Main Event) and was able to beat Mr. Rungood himself, Jason Mercier, heads-up to win the title.

1. Max Altergott – €1,746,400

2. Jason Mercier – €1,115,700

3. Sorel Mizzi – €679,100

4. Timothy Adams – €485,100

5. Vladimir Troyanovsky – €339,500

6. Scott Seiver – €266,900

7. Mike Watson – €218,300

And with that Season 9 of the European Poker Tour has now come to a close, and we are still without a repeat winner on the tour heading into the historic Season 10 which will kick-off in Barcelona in mid-August. Here is a look at the full schedule for Season 10:
