Last year the PokerStars European Poker Tour hosted the inaugural Champion of Champions tournament at the EPT Grand Final that took place in Madrid, Spain. The tournament invited all of the past winners on the EPT tour to compete for EPT Passport Packages with a total value of €100,000, and 50 of the former EPT winners took part in the event with Jason Mercier taking home the first-place prize-package worth €50,000.

This year the EPT has announced it will once again host the Champion of Champions tournament at the EPT Grand Final (which has moved back to Monte Carlo after its one-year stint in Madrid) and once again the tour has invited all of their former champions to attend and battle it out for the EPT Passport Packages.

The tournament is a complete freeroll for the invited players, and will take place on May 1, 2012, the day after the crowning of the EPT Grand Final Champion for Season 8. The format for the event will be a 6-Max No Limit Holdem freezeout with a turbo structure.

The number of potential entrants in the tournament has increased from last year’s 70 EPT winners, to over 80 this time around as Ronny Kaiser, Martin Schleich, Benny Spindler, Andrey Pateychuk, Zimnan Ziyard, Martin Finger, John Dibella, Vadzim Kursevich, Mickey Petersen, and Frederik Jensen all joined the ranks of EPT champions during Season 8 of the tour. There are still a couple of Championship left to be played on Season 8 of the EPT, so a couple more names will be added to the invite list, including the EPT Grand Final winner.

* 1st place — Live Event EPT Passport worth €35,000

* 2nd place — Live Event EPT Passport worth €25,000

* 3rd place — Live Event EPT Passport worth €17,500

* 4th place — Live Event EPT Passport worth €10,000

* 5th place — Live Event EPT Passport worth €7,500

* 6th place — Live Event EPT Passport worth €5,000

Amazingly in the 80 EPT events that have taken there has yet to be a repeat winner on the tour.

Overall there will be 37 separate tournaments played during the week-long tournament series that begins on April 23, 2012 and runs through May 1, 2012. Here is a look at the highlights of the EPT Grand Final schedule:

* Monday, April 23: NL – Holdem – Super High Roller – “8 Max” – Reload – €98,500 + €1,500

* Tuesday, April 24: NL – Heads Up – 64 Cap – €5,000 + €250
