Isildur1 returns and Gavz101 surpasses $2 million

With the US nosebleed crowd MIA since Black Friday hit, a number of foreign-based high-stakes online poker pros have now been getting the attention they deserve, and without some of the stiffest competition at the tables they have also been cleaning up quite nicely. This week we also saw the return of Isildur1 to the high-stakes tables at PokerStars, and book a big win in the process –the young phenom had been taking a few weeks off after his latest downswing.

Viktor “Isildur1” Blom’s return saw the Swedish poker pro take to his usual $25/$50 and $50/$100 PLO tables at PokerStars where he is a member of Team PokerStars Pro. Isildur1 ended his session with a profit of $183,936 according to www.highstakesdb.com. Since Black Friday Blom has been something of a ghost at PokerStars after basically being a staple in the site’s high-stakes games as well as the Superstar Showdown matches, which have also been on a hiatus since Black Friday.

Meanwhile, UK poker pro Gavin “gavz101” Cochrane surpassed the $2 million mark in winnings for the year, putting him in second place behind Gus Hansen. Hansen had marched out to over $4 million in early 2011 before going through some ups and downs –mainly downs—that now put his overall profit for the year at about $2.5 million.

It will be interesting to see which US nosebleed player is the first to appear back at the tables by moving abroad; in fact I’m shocked that we haven’t seen anyone do this yet!
