Poker fans treated to ‘durrrr Challenge’ session

Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan and Daniel ‘jungleman12’ Cates got together for a two and half hour session in their ongoing 50,000 hand challenge match that saw the two online poker phenoms battle it out for 1,407 hands. In the end there was little drama as Tom Dwan ended up with a small victory, booking a profit of $18,000. However, with roughly 12,500 of the 50,000 hands in the books Dwan will likely take any victory he can get at this point.

Dwan currently trails Cates by over $550,000, and it has been Cates controlling the action against the usually hyper-aggressive Dwan thus far in the match –although with ¾ of the match still to be played it is anyone’s contest.

The two high-stakes players are battling it out across four tables of $200/$400 No Limit Holdem, and per the stipulations of the match the loser will have pay the winner a predetermined sum of money in addition to the losses they suffer during the match. As it is known as the ‘Durrrr Challenge’ Dwan is laying 3-to-1 odds against his opponent, so should Cates lose he must pay Dwan an additional $500,000 while Dwan is on the hook for $1,500,000!

This is the second Durrrr Challenge, with the first being against Patrik Antonius which is still yet to be completed –Dwan has a $2 million lead in that match with just 10,000 hands left to play.
