Presidential Candidate Gary Johnson joins 2+2

Former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson has just broken new ground in terms of presidential politics, as the pro-legalized and regulated poker politician is the first candidate –to my knowledge—to not only purchase ad space on the 2+2 poker forum, but to also join the forums and post!

Johnson’s ad-buy can be seen prominently at the top of the 2+2 forums as well as in the sidebar. A little deeper digging will bring up John son’s thread titled, Why Should Poker Players Get to Know Gary Johnson.

Johnson is a true Libertarian candidate and is trying to gain traction in a crowded Republican field that already includes Libertarian darling Ron Paul, and is using the government’s role in prohibiting online poker as a way to spark support from the substantial poker community –although, getting a poker player to remember what day it is hard enough, I don’t know how organized they will be a ballot box!

Johnson’s post even links to a specific page on his Presidential Candidate website hyping his opposition to the government prohibiting online poker –with a handy link to donate to his campaign of course.

Thus far the thread has swelled to 21 pages with forum members asking questions of Gov. Johnson –most of which seem to be answered by an aide named Zrocketman on 2+2.

It will be interesting to see what type of buzz and support simply joining the 2+2 poker forums can bring, and if Gov. Johnson raises a substantial amount of money from poker players my guess is that virtually every politician will suddenly see this as an important issue.
