Joe Connolly

joe connolly pokerJoe Connolly was born in December 1986, and hails from Cambridge, England. He now lives in County Galway, in the Republic of Ireland, where he moved with his father and brother when he was 17. He started to play poker online because it is very quiet where he lives, and there is not much to do, so he says. He is relatively new to the game of poker and started to learn by playing with just play money, until 2007 when he started with $5, given to him by his brother, and he has never gone broke since. In four years he has earned nearly $250,000 playing his poker online, not bad for somebody who used to play for fun and started off with $5!

He says his favourite cash game is Omaha High/Low, and his favourite tournaments to play in are No Limit Hold’em Multi Table Tournaments. He spends his time away from poker by catching up on his sleep, which he says is his favourite hobby, apart from poker of course!

Joe started playing online poker at PokerStars in 2007, and picked up his first In The Money (ITM) on 14th April when he finished in 396th place out of 2,806 starters in a $3.30 NLHE MTT. He banked $28 for his efforts that day and has never looked back since. Later that year in August he was to experience his first major win, picking up a cool $7,312 in a NLHE MTT $5.50 rebuy, defeating the other 2,195 players in the tournament in a little over eight hours.

Early in 2008 he started to play more and started off the year in good form with 54 ITM’s in January alone. Those 54 cashes paid him $13,039 in prize money. He has started 2011 on fire with his biggest ITM so far on PokerStars, with a fourth placed finish netting him $16,523. His overall winnings to date on PokerStars are $155,523 with well over 500 In The Money finishes.

His largest ITM in his short career is with Full Tilt Poker, and came in 2008 in a $109 NLHE MTT, with a total prize pool of $414,200 and 4,142 players. He eventually finished in third place and collected $28,994. His record on Full Tilt Poker is equally as impressive, with total prize money of $65,077 and over 70 In The Money finishes to his name.

In December 2010 he was participating in the UKIPT (United Kingdom & Ireland Poker Tour) at the Radisson Hotel in Galway, which was sponsored by PokerStars. He gained entry in to the main event by winning his seat in a Super Satellite Rebuy costing €85 + €15, where 15 seats were on offer. In the main event he was to finish in 29th position out of the 266 starters. He earned €2,286 which is his largest Live ITM so far.

These days he is found here at Lock, where he is one of the Elite Pros, playing cash games mainly. He may well be a Pro but Joe is always looking to improve his game, so be warned, be on the look out for Conno86.
