Tony G and Party Poker end their relationship

Three years, lots of laughs, and plenty of Phil Hellmuth bashing. That is what we can look back on when we reminisce about Tony G’s time at Party Poker. Tony G announced he will be moving on, ending his sponsorship with Party Poker, to concentrate on his new sports-betting/casino site called TonyBet.com.

Dutch Boyd raising money for Autobiography/Strategy book

A few months back Dutch Boyd was posting on reddit telling the world he was broke and willing to wash dishes for minimum wage to pay his bills. Then some of his poker trinkets found their way to E-Bay, and now Dutch is on Kickstarter looking for $5,000 so he can publish an autobiography/strategy poker book. Even though the Kickstarter project has already exceeded the $5,000 goal (1 person has allegedly pledged $5,000 to sponsor the book), I see this whole thing not ending well.

The Italian Supreme Court’s pro-poker ruling

Poker has won another battle in the legal system, this time in Italy where the Italian Supreme Court has ruled that poker tournaments are in fact a game of skill. The ruling began when a poker tournament at the Double Up club in Palermo was raided and the organizers arrested.

The ruling upholds the previous ruling by a lower court that called Texas Holdem tournaments with no rebuys (I don’t understand how this would change the skill factor, but ok Italy) were allowable under Italian law. So it will now be legal to organize poker tournaments in Italy, but they will fall under taxable income.
