It was another busy week of headlines across the poker world, and in addition to the EPT Madrid tournament taking place in Europe, there was plenty of poker news coming in away from the tables. Here is a look at the top stories over the past week from the world of poker.

Daniel Negreanu releases super-sized video blog

Daniel Negreanu has been true to his word, releasing a video blog every week, and this time around the Weekly Rant ran a bit long, clocking in at 20 minutes! A number of topics were covered, including Daniel’s opinion of Jeffrey Pollack (who seems to be about 1 pip ahead of Annie Duke in Negreanu’s mind) as well as the controversy of the past week, “owing.”

As usual there was also a more light-hearted segment to his rant, with Negreanu focusing on a “beer-chugging prop-bet between Yevgeniy Timoshenko and Vanessa Selbst at the Bay 101 Main Event.

Bodog makes major change to Hand Histories

On Thursday Bodog announced it would be implementing its latest security measure; allowing players to request any, or all, hand histories with ALL hole cards visible. The implementation of this feature was in response to player concerns over collusion at Bodog’s Anonymous Tables –the same Anonymous Tables allow for this type of information to be distributed without giving players an advantage over one another. Players will have to wait 24-hours to receive these hand histories.

Possible Full Tilt sale on the horizon

According to a number of sources (including notable outlets like Diamond Flush from the now defunct Subject: Poker website, Gaming Intelligence Magazine; and eGaming Review) the deal between Full Tilt Poker and Groupe Bernard Tapie could be announced as early as today… but the poker world has heard that story before.

More on the Epic Fail of the Epic Poker League

Cardplayer Magazine offered a very in-depth article on the Epic Poker League bankruptcy filing in a rare hard-hitting expose from the poker outlet. In the article the Epic Poker League is said to owe 100 creditors over $5 million. Perhaps the most damaging piece of information concerned Epic Poker’s buyout (or proposed buyout) of the Heartland Poker Tour:

“A budget submitted by Federated Sports and Gaming to the bankruptcy court proposed that executives use cash collateral from Heartland Poker Tour operations to spend $458,092 in Federated salaries for three months, March 2012 through May 2012.

 

“In other words, while Federated Sports and Gaming had no tournaments scheduled to run during these three months, they attempted to use revenue from a company they acquired, but hadn’t fully paid for, to support lavish Federated executive paychecks.”

Superstar Showdown rematch

A rematch between Viktor “Isildur1” Blom and Isaac Haxton took place on PokerStars Sunday, but due to a problematic Internet connection the match had to be postponed after 623 of the scheduled 2,500 hands were played, with Isildur1 up nearly $100,000.
