There were a number of “odd” poker stories over the past couple of days, so I thought I’d collect them all together and get you caught up on the more head-scratching stories that have come out of the poker world over the past week; enjoy!

WPT Player of the Year to receive “Custom” poker table

You pretty much have to see this table to believe it: http://blog.worldpokertour.com/wpt-player-of-the-year-to-receive-one-of-a-kind-poker-table/, but the WPT Player of the Year will receive a one-of-a-kind gift worth $75,000, in the form of an all-wood poker table. According to the WPT blog the table was designed by Axel Yberg of Akke Functional Art, and “took 600 man-hours to build and features 15 types of wood including Rosewood, Black Walnut, Cherry, and Madagascar Ebony.

PokerStars’ Doomsday employee

On Monday PokerStars had to issue what is likely its strangest apology in its 10-year history. Apparently the company has an employee on the Isle of Mann who is prepping for the Armageddon, and decided to issue a dire warning to PokerStars customers via E-Mail, claiming “Three Days of Darkness” will occur from the 21st to the 24th of December. Here is a look at part of PokerStars apology to its customers:

“…one of our employees violated internal policies by accessing our marketing database and sending an unauthorized communication to a small number of player email addresses. We identified the method that he used to circumvent our policy, and immediately implemented measures to ensure that no individual in the company can repeat this.”

WSOP Europe moving AGAIN

The World Series of Poker Europe will have its third home in four years in 2013 as the WSOPE has announced it will be moving, but will be staying in France, going from Cannes to Paris.

WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart spoke about the venue change, saying, “Part of our vision for WSOP Europe is to mix poker and pleasure – and introduce players to some of the most exciting destinations in Europe,” adding that the series in Paris “promises to be the most comfortable and conducive set up for poker players in the WSOPE’s seven-year history.”

“BOOM” online poker documentary in editing phase

The online poker documentary BOOM, created by Jay Rosenkrantz and Taylor Caby is in the post-production phase, according to a blog post by Rosenkrantz:

“It’s important to understand that we (and I mean we as a poker community, as enthusiasts of the game, of people who experienced the crazy thrills and spills of the past 10 years in this wild world) only have one shot to have a movie we can love and share that truly captures the spirit of what it was like to be a part of the online poker boom in the 2000s. The road to that movie may have been long and circuitous, but your continued support and enthusiasm for this project has really been a major driving force in getting us to the finish line with something we are confident that we will all be proud of.”
