Poker News BoyAs we approach the World Series of Poker Main Event final table, which will take place in just 10 days, there are plenty of other stories going on in the poker world, which I’ll talk about now, as well as some stories that you may be hearing about for the first time.

David Williams wins a Magic the Gathering Grand Prix

According to poker writer extraordinaire Earl Burton over at PokerNewsDaily.com, 2004 World Series of Poker Main Event runner-up David Williams went to his strategic card game roots recently, winning the Magic the Gathering Grand Prix San Jose.

Williams won the team event along with Matt Sperling and Paul Rietzl, beating out 570 teams to win the tournament. The article also goes into Williams checkered past with Magic the Gathering, describing an incident way back where Williams was barred from competition for cheating! If you want to read more about the story and the recent win by William’s team in San Jose you can check out Earl’s article here: http://www.pokernewsdaily.com/david-williams-wins-magic-the-gathering-grand-prix-event-22685/

A friendly $10 tournament in 2004 has some well-known participants

In today’s edition of “Before They Were Stars” (ok, this is the only edition of “Before They Were Stars”) we have an old thread from 2004 at www.pokerforums.org where an 11 person private tournament, with a massive $10 buy-in, featured a very impressive list of entrants including Lex “raSZi” Vedhuis, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, and Dan “Rekrul” Schreiber, three of the biggest winners in poker!

South Point Poker hiring

The first online poker room in the United States is expected to be South Point Poker in Nevada (despite a recent hiccup that is causing a delay in the launch of the site) and the site is now hiring some extra employees to make the transition as smooth as possible.

Here is a look at the jobs that are available at South Point Poker: http://www.southpointpoker.com/jobs/index.html
