Poker News BoyWith the World Series of Poker just a week away poker players are getting ready for an insane two-month stretch, but the final weekend before the WSOP kicks-off had plenty of tournament action itself, as the PokerStars SCOOP series winds down and the WPT Championship takes place at the Bellagio. In addition to the tournament action there was also the announcement of a new fast-paced online poker game by Microgaming and the White House made an official statement regarding its stance on online poker.

White House responds to online poker

After a 10,000 strong petition on the White House’s ‘We the People” page, the Obama Administration decided to clarify its position on online poker, which basically took the form of “this is a State by State issue”. In the statement [which you can read here] Brian Deese, Deputy Director of the National Economic Council, outlined the administration’s stance as well as provided the unresolved issues they have with potential legislation.

$25k WPT Championship underway

Season X of the World Poker Tour is coming to a close, and the biggest names in poker are at the Bellagio taking part in the season-ending $25k Championship. A disappointing 103 players showed up for the event on Day 1, but late registration through Day 2 and up until the start of Day 3 saved the tournament from being the least attended WPT Championship in the tour’s history.

We’ll be bringing you daily updates from the event which you can find at our homepage www.PokerNewsBoy.com

WSOP less than 1 week away

Our Countdown to the World Series of Poker (which begins Sunday May 27th) will continue this week, with our latest installment taking a look at the female poker players who could have a big WSOP in 2012. You can read our latest WSOP Countdown HERE.

Microgaming launches Blaze Poker

Another online poker operator has launched their own version of Full Tilt Poker’s very popular Rush Poker, as a few skins on the Microgaming Poker Network have officially launched Blaze Poker. Working in the same way as Rush Poker and PokerStars recently launched Zoom Poker, Blaze Poker is currently available at Nordic Poker and Ladbrokes, but only at micro-stakes at the current time.

Shaun Deeb wins AGAIN!

Shaun Deeb wrapped up an impressive SCOOP series at PokerStars with a win in the $2,100 HORSE event, his record-setting fourth SCOOP title in 2012! Deeb’s four wins (and four other final tables) saw him run away with the SCOOP Player of the Series award as well, capping off one of the most impressive runs in poker history.

It will be interesting to see if Deeb can continue his stellar play at the WSOP, or if his live tournament struggles will continue.
