Monday Headlines: Galfond talks degens, Poker Maximus and more

Poker News BoyOur weekly look at the top headlines from the weekend, and this week there was plenty of stories going on in the world of poker. This weekend saw everything from a new blog by Phil Galfond, to an artist’s rendition of the Steve Wynn proposed casino in Foxborough, Massachusetts, as well as an update on the Poker Maximus tournament series running on the Merge Gaming Network.

Phil Galfond weighs in on “owing” and “debts” in the poker world

In his latest blog post Phil Galfond tackled the topic of poker players and debts. The topic has been receiving a lot of attention in the poker world after the revelation on 2+2 that Erick Lindgren owed numerous people money from Fantasy Sports betting , including an insane amount to professional sports-bettor Haralabos “Bob” Voulgaris.

Galfond only touches on E-Dog in the post (since he says he doesn’t know him well enough to comment) and spends most of the time explaining how these debts get accrued and warning young players about the types of people to avoid in the poker world.

Poker Maximus tournament series chugs along

The Poker Maximus series continues to roll along at Lock Poker and the Merge Gaming network, and we have been recapping all of the tournaments each day HERE.

Superstar Showdown postponed

The highly anticipated rematch between Viktor “Isildur1” Blom and Isaac Haxton got underway yesterday, but unfortunately the duo couldn’t finish their 5,000 hand Superstar Showdown heads-up match due to WEATHER. Haxton, who lives in Malta apparently had a shaky Internet connection after a bad storm — What is this 1991 and Haxton is using AOL dial-up?!?!?!?

Proposed Wynn casino in Massachusetts comes to life

Steve Wynn has been lobbying the people of Massachusetts to try to secure one of the three casino licenses that will become available in the state, in hopes of creating a mega-casino across the way from Foxborugh Stadium, where the Patriots play. MyFoxBoston.com released an artist’s rendition of what the proposed casino in Foxborough, Massachusetts would look like –which you can see HERE.

Everleaf Network sanctioned

Following their withdrawal from the US market, the Everleaf Poker Network received some more bad news this past week as the Lotteries and Gaming Commission of Malta (the LGC) sanctioned the online poker network for “inconsistencies”. While the statement was short and vague by the LGC, you can read a full version of the events HERE.

Moon Kim wins WPT Bay 101 Shooting Stars

With everything else going on in the poker world, there was also some poker being played. The WPT Bay 101 Main Event wrapped-up this weekend, and it was amateur Moon Kim who would take the top honor, besting a final table that included Erick Cajelais, Joe Serock, and WSOP bracelet winner Andrew Badecker to claim the nearly $1 million first-place prize.
