PokerStars Superstar Showdown battle postponed

An online duel between two of the best heads-up poker players in the world, Isaac Haxton and Viktor “Isildur1” Blom, was abruptly called short yesterday when Isaac Haxton started experiencing Internet problems due to bad weather! The two had played roughly 1,000 hands of their scheduled 5,000 hand battle when Haxton’s Internet started acting up, forcing the two to suspend the match until later in the week.

The match was the first Superstar Showdown match at PokerStars since last June, when Isildur1 bested Rui Cao, winning $150,000.

Haxton, who moved to Malta in order to continue playing online poker after Black Friday, offered up an explanation to the 2+2 poker forum on the matter, posting that “”To clarify the weather stuff: There was a rally bad storm two days ago. My internet was completely down for two hours and has been a little unstable ever since,”

There is no word yet on whether the two will begin the match anew, or if they will pick up where they left off –with Blom holding a $95,000 edge over Haxton. Nor do we know precisely when the match will resume –Blom is scheduled to play yet another Superstar Showdown match this coming Sunday against Danny “Kanu7” Miller.

The battle between Haxton and Blom was a much-hyped rematch between the first two Superstar Showdown competitors that saw Haxton come out on top of Blom by a margin of $41,000 in Late 2010 –which seems like an absolute lifetime ago!

Since then Blom has been practically unbeatable in the heads-up Superstar Showdown matches, reeling off 8 straight wins over players like Eugene Katchalov, Daniel Cates, Scott Palmer, Daniel Negreanu, and Tony G. Despite his recent success Blom found himself an underdog vs. Haxton according to the line set for the match by Matchbook.com, with a spokesman for the popular betting site saying:

“Any time you have two of the best players in the world battling it out in a structured format, there will be loads of interest in betting on the match. Given Isildur’s form, it seems crazy for him to be the underdog in this match. But money talks, and if anyone feels differently they will surely be accommodated.”

Just before the match, anyone interested in betting on Haxton found the line at -145 (wager $145 to win $100) and the line on a Blom victory at +125 (wager $100 to win $125).
