Weekly Brief: Poker tournaments reign supreme

Poker News BoyThis week’s headlines were all about the tournaments! Major tournaments from three separate poker tours were taking place this past week, and all of them created some major headlines. In Hammond, Indiana the World Series of Poker Circuit Series was busy with their first Regional Championship: Up in Connecticut the World Poker Tour was holding their annual tournament at Foxwoods and both Tom Marchese and Sorel Mizzi are making a deep run: And in Vienna, Austria the PokerStars.net European Poker Tour was back after a 5 year hiatus, with Daniel Negreanu headlining a the final table.

For those of you looking for some more obscure news from the tournament trail, how about the news that the popular online poker site 888Poker will be picking up the sponsorship for the Russian Poker Tour finals in Kiev. The Main Event will take place on November 12th, with a $2,500 buy-in and a $500,000 guaranteed prize-pool.

So, what else went on in poker this week? How about Howard Lederer weighing in on the Poker Hall of Fame selections: The Sands Casino in Pennsylvania doubling their poker tables: and Gus Hansen going on a massive heater at Full Tilt Poker.
