Poker tournament ends in 23-way chop at Foxwoods!

I know, I thought I had misread this when I first heard about it, but it’s true: The $400 Deep-Stack tournament at the Foxwoods World Poker Finals ended with 23 players agreeing to divide up the remaining prize-pool –I’m not sure who’s idea it was to float the idea across three tables, or who put it together, but they should get the biggest piece of the pie in my opinion!

First-place in the tournament netted $12,011, while the 23rd place finisher walked away with $10,091, the same amount as the 5th place finisher! To round out the chop, 2nd – 4th each received an even $12,000.

This will go down as one of the most bizarre finishes to a tournament in the history of poker. The story first spread on the 2+2 poker forum, and apparently the wheeling and dealing started with 30 players remaining. I’m amazed that the chip leaders would agree to such a deal considering first place was worth a massive $68,000 –apparently there was not much faith in their poker abilities.

Despite the tournament being a deep-stack event the blinds were increasing and the chip-leader had roughly 30 blinds in his stack. But, honestly, I don’t know what else to say on this, it is mind-boggling that 23 players could be convinced to pass up a $68,000 payday to guarantee themselves a couple thousand dollars more.
