If you’re not familiar with live poker you may not know the term “Auto-Dumping”. Auto-Dumping refers to a tournament player taking chips from one tournament and using them in another tournament. For instance, a player could play in the $35 tournament on a Monday morning and pocket a few high denomination chips and add them to his stack when they are playing the much more lucrative $200 tournament on Saturday night.

And this is precisely what two players at the Gulfstream Park Casino in Hallendale Beach, Florida were recently found guilty of in a court of law. According to the Orlando Sentinel:

Lashone Dobard, 33, and Kelvin McClendon, 37, both of Hollywood, pleaded no contest to cheating, a felony. They were sentenced on the spot.

Dobard was sentenced to 142 days in jail, with credit for 112 days already served. He turned himself in to complete the rest of his punishment on Thursday. McClendon was sentenced to two years of probation.

Both men are banned from returning to the casino as part of their plea agreement with prosecutors and Broward Circuit Judge Andrew Siegel.”

Auto-Dumping has always been an issue in live poker tournaments, especially in rebuy tournaments where a player must leave the table to purchase additional chips –which is why most casinos have changed their policy to only offer rebuys and add-ons at the table.
