French Poker Operator Winamax Preparing For European Online Poker
The European poker market has not done very well in the last five years as Spain, France, Italy and Portugal have all reported sluggish online poker markets in recent times. Stringent gaming regulations, small player pools, lack of proper competition and limited cash prizes did not help boost the online poker industry in Europe.
Gaming regulators in Spain, France, Italy and Portugal held discussions for a long period of time about a potential compact that would allow the four countries to merge their online poker markets and create a consolidated European online poker market. The four countries managed to sort out their challenges and finally signed a European online poker liquidity agreement in July 2017.
Online gaming operators in these four countries must now prepare for a major expansion that would allow them to capitalize on the poker market in all four countries. The player pool will definitely increase but so will the competition. Winamax, the leading online poker operator in France knows that it must position itself in Spain, Italy and Portugal if it wants to capture market share and stay ahead of the competition.
Winamax recently announced that it had signed Italy poker pro Mustapha Kanit and Spanish poker pro Adrian Mateos to be a part of its Winamax team of ambassadors. The two new brand ambassadors will be responsible for promoting the Winamax brand in Italy and Spain and help bring in new poker players to Winamax.
Mustapha Kanit
Mustapha Kanit is the number one poker player in Italy with over $9.2 million in career prize money according to the Hendon Mob. Kanit has won more than $4.6 million in online poker winnings and during the last couple of years he has received a lot of attention in the poker community after winning the EPT Monte Carlo €50,000 Super High Roller in 2015 and finishing second in the EPT €100,000 Super High Roller in 2016. The 26 year old poker pro tweeted that he was happy to represent the Winamax brand and had a great vibe about his new role.
Adrian Mateos
Adrian Mateos ranks second on Spain’s all-time money list with over $9.6 million in career prize money. The 23 year old poker pro who hails from Madrid is ranked in 5th place on the Global Poker Index and is extremely popular on the global poker circuit. Mateos is the youngest player to have won three World Series of Poker (WSOP) gold bracelets. The Spanish poker pro stated that he believed that Winamax would play a vital role when the European shared liquidity market was launched and said that the Winamax poker room would definitely be an exemplary room.
Winamax is currently licensed to offer online poker services only in France. The company said it wasn’t sure as to when gaming regulators would confirm the launch of the European shared online liquidity market but it wanted to prepare well in advance to penetrate the three new markets and establish itself as a major force in European online poker.
