2013 PokerStars PCA schedule shaping up

One of the biggest tournaments of the year happens right when the calendar flips from December to January, when PokerStars rolls out their biggest live event of the year, the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, usually referred to by the acronym PCA. The PCA has become one of the most prestigious tournaments in poker, and the upcoming tournament series in the Bahamas, the tournament’s 10th anniversary, is looking like one of the biggest to date.

The 2013 PCA will feature a full slate of events when it kicks-off on January 5th including the Main Event, a High-Roller tournament, a Super-High-Roller event, and the just announced, first of its kind, Open-Faced Chinese Poker tournament. Here is a look at some of the highlights on the 2013 PCA schedule:

* The $100k buy-in Super-High-Roller tournament will kick-off the tournament series on January 5th, and this time around it will allow for unlimited reentries, which could swell the total prize-pool if some deep-pockets make the trip

* The Main Event will be a $10,000 buy-in No Limit Hold Em tournament, taking place from January 7th through the 14th.

* The $25k High-Roller event will take place on January 12th

* The PCA will be the first tournament series to offer an open-faced Chinese poker event (the latest rage in the high-stakes poker world). The event will be a $2,000 buy-in tournament and will take place on January 7th.

The Open-Faced Chinese Poker event will be one of the more intriguing event for players and the poker media, as its unclear how the format will translate as a tournament. However it turns out, it won’t be from a lack of participants, or a lack of big names, as Lee Jones stated on 2+2: “All the cool kids are playing it. It’s sufficiently popular that we’re going to have a seminar about it and a tournament ($2K+$150 buy-in) at the PCA.”

It’s likely that more announcements will be made during the lead-up to the 2013 PCA, as PokerStars has a habit of making a very big deal about historic anniversaries.
