2013 WSOP Notebook Day 4: Team UP, #TeamSpa and more
This year PokerNewsBoy.com will be bringing you all of the important news from the World Series of Poker, but we’ll also be scouring the Internet for some of the little tidbits that fall through the cracks. Our daily WSOP Notebook column will focus on anything controversial, funny, or just downright strange, so if you happen across an interesting bit of information please post it here: OFFICIAL 2013 News and Notes and if we find it newsworthy it will make the column along with a special thanks to the person who brought it to light.
We’re now getting into the nitty gritty of the 2013 World Series of Poker, with open-event bracelets being handed out, thousands and thousands of players roaming the halls of the Rio, and three, four, and sometimes five tournaments running concurrently. On Day 4 we saw the first open-event bracelet won, a history-making tournament, a number of additions to the Ultimate Poker roster of sponsored pros, another year and more marked cards, and a look at Todd Witteles’ rungood courtesy of @AsianSpa.
Ultimate Poker roster grows at the WSOP
At the start of the WSOP the first licensed poker room in the US, Ultimate Poker, had two players on their roster, Antonio Esfandiari and Terrence Chan. But since the start of the WSOP the UP roster has been growing (yesterday we shared the news that MMA aficionado Jason Somerville had joined the UP ranks) and is now up to nine members, as Jonathan Little, Lauren Kling, Gavin Griffin, Dan O’Brien, Phil Collins, William Reynolds, and Randy Dorfman were all seen wearing UP logos, and the following Tweet was sent out by Ultimate Poker on Saturday:
Norman Chad’s marked card Tweet; was it satire?
Last year the WSOP had some issues with defective cards, and it appears that this year is going to be no different if the following tweet by Norman Chad is to be believed:
Bad news: My table’s had three marked cards removed from deck in the last hour. Good news: they’re not the cards I marked.
#SpaRunGood… it works
PokerFraudAlert.com’s Todd “DanDruff” Witteles was playing in his first event of the 2013 WSOP yesterday and was sporting a #TeamSpa patch in the Millionaire Maker tournament. Well, all Witteles did was finish his Day 1 flight near the top of the leader-board with over 25,000 chips. As @AsianSpa said:
@ToddWitteles huge day! <<< must have been the #TeamSpa Sticker!! #BaggingChips #pfa06
I should also point out that I finished in 2nd place in my bi-weekly home game tournament this weekend as well, which was my first event after receiving my #TeamSpa patch. My recommendation is for everyone to get on #TeamSpa immediately.
