Annette Obrestad wins her first major PLO tournament

Annette “Annette_15” Obrestad has never made a deposit into a poker site, in fact she started her career by playing freerolls and has since become one of the most feared and respected players both online and on the live circuit.

Online poker is where Annette first learned her trade, becoming a multi-table tournament specialist and at time of writing she has over $1,000,000 in online tournament winnings. Already a well-known name online, Annette shot to fame by winning a tournament with 180 players after only looking at her hole cards once, doing this to prove how vital position and aggression is in poker.

Despite having just turned 21-years of age, Annette has had great success on the live circuit too. In September 2007 she won the inaugural World Series of Poker Europe Main Event to become the youngest ever winner of a WSOP bracelet, aged only 18. She followed this up by coming second at EPT Dublin just a month later, winning €297,800 to add to the £1,000,000 she won at the WSOPE.

In 2009 Annette took part in the Aussie Millions and had a great run in the AUD$10,000 Main Event, just coming up short and finishing in 21st place from 681 entrants. Playing poker in Australia seems to favour the young Norwegian as it is the location where she has just won her first major Pot-limit Omaha tournament.

Annette entered Event #4 of the 2010 Aussie Millions for AUS$1,100, along with 159 others creating a prize pool of AUS$160,000, with AUS$40,000 of this reserved for the winner.

After the end of day one, all but the nine players had lost their stacks and Annette found herself going into the final table third in chips and in with a great chance of tasting victory and getting her hands on a coveted gold championship ring.

In true Annette style, she tormented her opponents by putting them under constant, immense pressure which worked wonders as she eliminated five of her eight opponents, including Billy Seri heads-up when her pair of jacks held up to hand her the victory she thoroughly deserved.

This victory takes Annette Obrestad’s live tournament earnings ever closer to the $3,000,000 mark and with her having time on her side, she could be a real rival to Daniel Negreanu’s top spot in the all-time money listings. She should also be an inspiration to young people who want to learn how to play Omaha Poker
