Daily Grind: Agent Marco’s new home and more

Poker News BoyEvery day the poker world is inundated with more news, reports, and gossip, than any of us can read. At PokerNewsBoy.com we understand that there are only so many hours in the day, and only so much time you can set aside to follow all of the stories taking place, so we have come up with the Daily Grind as a solution. The Daily Grind will make sure you don’t miss any of the more obscure poker stories, wrapping up the day in poker in one neat, concise, column.

Today I’ll take a look at Marco “Agent Marco” Valerio’s new gig in the poker world, a rare feat pulled off by one of the online game’s best tournament players, and attendance records falling early in 2013.

Marco Valerio joins the Global Poker Index

Agent Marco has landed a new job after leaving QuadJacks a couple weeks ago. Marco rose to prominence as an interviewer at QuadJacks, unafraid to ask the tough questions or to approach anyone in poker. Now he has landed at the Global Poker Index, where his role is still a bit undefined, but most people believe he will continue as an interviewer first and foremost.

Valerio posted the following message a few minutes ago:

“I have accepted a new position with the Global Poker Index, under the management of my longtime buddy and role model Alex Dreyfus. My responsibilities will include helping the company grow in the United States and develop a strong connection with the poker playing community, both of which are duties I am dying to fulfill. I’m extremely happy today, and enormously thankful to Alex and the entire GPI team. I stated earlier this month that I had every intention of sticking around and continuing to be of service to the poker community, and that’s exactly what I’ll get to keep doing at GPI.”

Casey Jarzabek chops back-to-back Sunday Millions

Last week we told you about the excellent start to 2013 for Casey “BigDogPckt5s” Jarzabek, who chopped the PokerStars Super Tuesday and the PokerStars Sunday Million in the same week. Well Jarzabek is back again this week, pulling off the rare feat of back-to-back Sunday Million final tables, and the even rarer feat of chopping the top few prize-spots for the second straight week! With the addition of over $100k to his bankroll this weekend Jarzabek is already approaching $350k in tournament winnings for the year, and is way out in front for the Online Player of the Year award.

According to multiple outlets (pocketfives.com, BluffMagazine.com, and Cardplayer. Com) Jarzabek has around $5 million in career tournament winnings in online events.

Attendance records fall in the first few weeks of 2013

The PCA started 2013 with a massive turnout in their $100k Super-High-Roller tournament, the best in the history of $100k events, and then proceeded to smash the $25k High-Roller record by attracting over 200 entrants. Since then the Aussie Millions set a record in Event #1, and now the WSOP Circuit Series set its own attendance record in Choctaw with the largest field in the casino’s history, and the third largest field in WSOPC history –trailing only the WSOPC Hammond Main Events in 2011 and 2012.
