Eastgate in the hunt at PokerStars EPT Berlin

After shocking the poker world by announcing his early retirement last summer, 2008 World Series of Poker Champion Peter Eastgate returned to the poker tables in early 2011 for the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship followed by the EPT Denmark tournament –ending his Brett Favre-esque retirement after less than a year—and in just his third major tournament back Eastgate has managed to make a deep run in the PokerStars EPT Berlin Main Event.

Eastgate currently has just over 300k chips with 119 players remaining in the field heading into Day 3 of the prestigious poker tournament, and is in good shape considering the average chip stack is less than 200k. However, Eastgate, and the rest of the field are all looking skyward, trying to catch Fabrice Soulier and his massive chip-lead of over 1 million chips.

Another player still in the hunt with the chance to make EPT history is EPT Snowfest winner Vladimir Geshkenbein who has the opportunity to be the first repeat EPT winner in the seven year history of the tour –with the capability of doing it in back-to-back tournaments to boot!

Here is a look at the chip leaders at the end of Day 2 in Berlin:

1.    Fabrice Soulier  —  1,079,400
2.    Alessandro Laubinger  —  742,400
3.    Giuseppe Pantaleo  —  578,500
4.    Thorsten Schafer  —  541,000

8.    Darin Kramer  —  446,500
9.    Alexis Morlet  — 383,400

A total of 773 players entered the tournament, swelling the total prize-pool to €3,865,000, with the winner of the EPT Berlin title receiving €825,000.
