Frenchman wins EPT Deauville poker tourney
In any other week Lucien Cohen’s win at the PokerStars European Poker Tour stop in Deauville, France would have garnered all of the headlines; after all, how many 47 year-old amateur poker players win one of the biggest tournaments of the year in their home country! Well, apparently more than you would think considering Cohen was upstaged by 68 year-old amateur poker player, and Australian native, David Gorr who won the Aussie Millions just days before, collecting a $2 million payday!
Cohen was able to beat a tough field of young poker talent on his way to the championship, not to mention the €880k first place prize-money. His toughest challenges came from top European poker players Alexander Wice and Martin Jacobson who finished in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Here is a look at how the final table played out at the EPT Deauville Main Event:
1. Lucien Cohen – €880,000
2. Martin Jacobson – €560,000
3. Alex Wice – €330,000
4. Julien Claudepierre – €260,000
5. Kaspars Renga – €200,000
6. Kenny Hallaert – €155,000
7. Anthony Hnatow – €110,000
8. Ruslan Prydryk – €66,800
The EPT Deauville was a huge success, obliterating last year’s attendance mark by attracting 891 entrants; generating a massive $4,276,800 prize-pool. No word yet on whether Cohen will follow David Gorr’s lad and show up for work tomorrow!
