Greg Raymer talks Full Tilt Poker on CNN
Greg Raymer is best known as the 2004 World Series of Poker Main event Champion, but the former patent attorney, turned poker pro, has now embarked on a new profession, and has built a reputation as one of the best spokesman for the poker industry. Raymer sits on the Board of Directors of two major online poker advocacy groups, the Poker players Alliance (PPA) and the newly created FairPlay USA, and had the opportunity to make the case for online poker regulation on CNN Thursday.
Raymer appeared on CNN to talk about the recent allegations made against Full Tilt Poker and during the segment did an excellent job of steering the conversation towards legalization and regulation of online gambling. Raymer’s main point of contention for regulation was the allegations against Full Tilt poker, where he rightly pointed out that had Full Tilt Poker’s regulatory body required the site to segregate player funds from operational funds this would have never happened –Raymer highlighted the way PokerStars was able to repay its players when along with Full Tilt Poker they were blindsided on Black Friday and had their US operations shutdown by the DOJ.
One of the highlights of the interview was when Raymer stated that online poker in the US has been, and still is, regulated by countries like Costa Rica and Gibraltar, countries that Raymer emphasized we wouldn’t outsource our FDA regulations to, so why are we outsourcing online poker regulations to these locales?
