Is the 2010 WSOP the redemption of Jerry Yang

After winning the 2007 World Series of Poker Main Event in improbable fashion, Jerry Yang was in the unenviable position of having luck-boxed his way to the title. Jerry’s poker skills were based solely on those played at the final table. When you ask poker players their thoughts on Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, or even a player like Greg Raymer you’ll often hear terms like “Great Champion”, “Ambassador of poker”, or “Legend”. Ask the same question about Jerry Yang and the best thing you’re likely to hear is, “He’s a really nice guy.”

However, Jerry has a chance to redeem himself at the 2010 WSOP. It would appear that Jerry has put a lot of time and effort into his poker game recently, and the proof is in the putting as they say: Having cashed in one event –his only cash outside of the 2007 WSOP Main Event—and is in the money in event #16, which is still in progress. Another couple of cashes, a final table, or perhaps a win could put Jerry’s poker game in a whole new light.

So here’s hoping one of poker’s truly nice people can put the moniker of luck-box behind him, and prove to the world he is capable of playing good solid poker.
