It’s been a good year for the man known as “Flushy”. James Dempsey may not be the most well-known when it comes to the influx of top tournament players from the UK, but he is quickly racking up a number of career accomplishments that would make any tournament poker player proud.

Dempsey’s latest achievement came this past week when he won the inaugural iSeries Live event; a ten-person, winner-take-all, Sit & Go tournament, with a $10,000 buy-in fee. Of course, the biggest appeal of the iSeries was in its’ live-betting format, allowing spectators to follow along with the action and place bets in real-time.

Dempsey, who many professionals liked in this event thanks to the 9-1 odds that he was given before the tournament began, controlled the action for much of the tournament, and as the action got down to four-handed play between Dempsey, Maria Ho, Dave “Devilfish Ulliott, and Carlos Mortensen it was apparent that Dempsey had the upper hand. The other players seemed unable to adjust to the short-handed nature of the tournament, while Dempsey ramped-up his aggression and for lack of a better term, outplayed his opponents during this portion of the match.

Phil Hellmuth was the first player to hit the rail after a series of bad beats (legitimate bad beats) sent the Poker Brat into a tailspin he was unable to recover from. Hellmuth’s elimination paid-off nicely for anyone who picked the Poker Brat to be the first one out –which is out character for Hellmuth who usually plays extremely cautiously in the early goings of a tournament.

Following Hellmuth to the rail was German poker pro Marvin Rettenamier, and then it would be Daniel Negreanu, the man who eliminated Hellmuth, next to hit the rail, losing an all-in confrontation with Dempsey, and with his elimination the two biggest names in the tournament were out of the running.

Faraz Jaka, who was nearly the first player to hit the rail, saw his comeback halted, finishing in 6th place. November Niner Eoghan O’Dea was the next to go as Devilfish hit another miracle to send a player packing, leaving Devilfish, Mortensen, Maria Ho, and Dempsey. By this time Dempsey had half the chips in play and was able to cruise to victory.
