Jose “Girah” Macedo dropped by Lock Poker

There may be some major news on the sponsored player front at Lock Poker if the current rumors are true. The grumblings in the poker world have to do with the contract of the Portuguese Poker Prodigy, Jose Macedo, or better stated the lack of a contract. According to the poker grapevine, which is almost without fail accurate, Macedo’s contract has been terminated by Lock Poker, and the young star has been banned from the Merge Gaming Network.

While there hasn’t been a specific reason given, it may stem from Macedo’s transgressions during Lock Poker’s Bluff Pro Challenge, where “Girah” originally won the promotion, but then after an internal investigation by Lock Poker he was stripped of the win after it came to light that another player had used his account during the promotion.

Macedo rose to prominence when he was first discussed on the 2+2 poker forum; Macedo was vaunted as a teenage poker prodigy who was taught by none other than Daniel “jungleman12” Cates, and upon turning 18 revealed his identity in the thread. From there he has become one of the most enigmatic online poker players, with many wondering if he is as good as he is cracked up to be.

The good news for Lock Poker is that they definitely haven’t put all their eggs in one basket despite the high-profile signing of Macedo. Once it became known that Girah had violated the terms and conditions of the site –even in a seemingly minor way—Lock Poker immediately stopped putting him front and center in their advertising, and it’s likely they were conducting a deeper, ongoing, investigation, which then turned up enough evidence for his contract to be terminated.

Macedo’s spot at the top of the Lock roster has already been filled with the addition of top UK pro Chris “Moorman1” Moorman, who along with being the all-time winningest online tournament player with over $7 million in career earnings, is coming off an Aussie Millions final table, and a 2011 WSOP where he earned over $1 million and finished in the Top 5 in the Player of the Year race –So Lock Poker is likely saying, “Girah WHO???” tonight.

As for Girah, he is now awaiting the arrival of Daniel “jungleman12” Cates and Haseem “Dogishead” Quereshi, who are supposed to be moving to Portugal –and staying with Macedo who is a good friend of Cates– so they can continue their online poker careers in the aftermath of Black Friday.
