Juanda ends Hellmuth’s run to 12th WSOP bracelet

In what was an amazing final table, filled with some of the best and most recognizable names in the poker world, it was the two players with the most experience who would find themselves battling for the $10k No Limit 2-7 Lowball Championship.

Phil Hellmuth was seeking an unprecedented 12th WSOP bracelet –not to mention his first non-Holdem WSOP bracelet—while four-time bracelet winner John Juanda was making his third straight appearance at the 2-7 final table!

Hellmuth managed to chip early on during Saturday’s action and held the chip-lead for a good portion of the final table, before eventually losing after jamming all-in with a pat Q-T, only to see Juanda draw a single card, a 5, and win with a pat J-8.

When asked about his three straight final tables in the event Juanda said, “Maybe I run pretty good in this game, but it feels pretty good… You don’t want to be the guy who become known as the guy who always gets to the final table but never win you know?” Hellmuth will now go back to work trying to win his elusive 12th bracelet, having been shut out at the WSOP since 2007.

Here is a look at the final table payouts for the 2-7 Lowball Championship:

1. John Juanda – $367,170

2. Phil Hellmuth – $226,907

3. Richard Ashby – $143,833

4. Steve Sung – $97,416

5. Nick Schulman – $69,216

6. David “Bakes” Baker – $51,485

7. Hasan Habib – $40,020

8. Joe Cassidy – $32,440

9. Greg Raymer – $27,928
