Microgaming announces expansion of Anonymous Tables

Just days after Bodog announced all of their poker tables would now be anonymous, the Microgaming Poker Network has apparently decided to follow in their footsteps, announcing yesterday that all of their Heads-Up No Limit Holdem tables, and select other tables at all stakes would be anonymous.

I’ve been giving a lot of credit to Bodog for their site-wide anonymous tables, but I should point out that the Microgaming Poker Network has had anonymous tables for quite some time now, since October 2010 –but unlike Bodog they simply offered them as a choice to their players; until now—and Party Poker added some Anonymous Tables in November 2010.

While neither Bodog nor the Microgaming Network is considered a world-beater when it comes to online poker traffic, they are not fly-by-night poker sites either. It’s still uncertain how poker players will react to Anonymous tables, as they do allow colluders and poker bot users fertile grounds to cheat other players (I say this because most colluders and bots are caught by players and not by the safeguards implemented by online poker sites). I’m hoping that both Bodog and the Microgaming Poker Network will explain the steps they are taking to detect these other infractions.

Even so, most players would likely rather deal with an occasional unscrupulous players or players, than have to deal with a completely unbalanced poker world, where skilled players (who already hold an edge over their unskilled opponents) have access to mountains of information that the other players are either unaware of, or do not understand the importance of.
