Negreanu topples Isildur1 in Showdown rematch

After taking the worst thumping in the short history of the Superstar Showdown last Sunday, Daniel Negreanu came back for another shot at Viktor “Isildur1” Blom this past Sunday, and about 1,200 hands into the scheduled 2,500 hand match it looked like Negreanu was going to be felted for a second straight week.

Facing a $120,000 deficit after 1,279 hands Negreanu suddenly went on a massive heater that saw him come all the way back to even, and eventually pull-off an improbable $26,500 win in the match. Overall Negreanu lost $123,500, but has to be felling really good about that number considering he was done about $275,000 at one point. Negreanu praised his opponent on the PokerStars Blog saying, “Isildur1 is incredible. I hope to do a training lesson with him one day. He’s the best.”

Isildur1 is still dominating the Superstar Showdown matches, with his only loss being to Isaac Haxton –arguably the best heads-up online poker player right now—with wins over Tony G, Daniel Cates, Eugene Katchalov, Daniel Negreanu, and an online qualifier staked by PokerStars DodgyFish72.

There will be no rest for the weary as the Next Superstar Showdown match has already been scheduled for Sunday April 3rd against Scott “urnotindangr2” Palmer. The Palmer vs. Blom match will use the same format as the recently concluded Negreanu vs. Isildur1 match, with the participants partaking in two 2,500 hand sessions over the course of two Sundays.
