Immediately after his World Series of Poker win, where he led the tournament almost wire-to-wire, the 23 year-old Canadian, Jonathan Duhamel, donated $100,000 to a charity in his hometown of Montreal to benefit children.

In his post-win press conference Duhamel told reporters he wants to be an ambassador for the game saying first in his Native French before switching to English, “It means so much to me. It’s a dream come true for me. All my life, I’ve dreamed of it and to have the chance to be called the champion is amazing… I’m the happiest guy on Earth right now… I’m going to do my best to try to be the best poker ambassador. It’s a dream come true for me, so I’ll do my best. I’m up for the challenge.”

It also seems that PokerStars may have pre-gamed with Duhamel on precisely what it will take to be an ambassador for the game –PokerStars is likely trying to avoid another Peter Eastgate situation—as Duhamel went on to tell the press, “I’ll do all of the biggest tournaments and will be back next year for the World Series. I’m going to play a lot of poker.”

Duhamel will now make the talk show rounds with appearances scheduled for ESPN’s SportsCenter as well as the Late Show with David Letterman –and it’s these appearances that will likely make or break Duhamel as a poker ambassador.
