Partypoker has made the announcement that it will be hosting its annual online tournament known as the “Powerfest” festival this May. The event will have the largest ever guarantee in the history of the site, a massive total of $7.8 million.

It is an impressive tournament schedule, with 172 Powerfest events taking place across three weeks. The tournament has a boxing theme, with the Featherweight category will be kicking things off on the 1st of May, followed by the Middleweight events from 8th to the 15th May, and both the Heavyweight and High Roller categories running alongside each other from then until the 22nd.

Each week will be split into buy-in levels ranging from $5.50 up to a hefty $5,200, plus weekly main events, just like last year’s version of the event.

The chairman of Partypoker Tom Waters announced that: “Powerfest has become an iconic event for partypoker and after listening to feedback from our players earlier this year we have decided to run it again, bigger and better than ever! The $7,800,000 guarantee is the largest that partypoker has ever offered, giving players of all bankroll sizes the chance to win big.”

The finale of the Powerfest will see two $1,000,000 guaranteed prize pools – the first is the $1,050 High Roller Main Event, and the second a $5,200 buy-in affair needing 200 entrants.

Last week Partypoker also made the announcement that it was to be launching a new feature called Pure Poker across the majority of its no-limit hold’em tournaments. Previous to this, Pure Poker only ran on Wednesdays and it saw several tournaments become freezeouts, and have their blind structure altered to match that of the WPT (World Poker Tour).

However, after this latest announcement, it will become the norm that all no-limit hold’em tournaments (except High Rollers and the some rebuy tournaments) are freezeouts. They will see players start with 30,000 chips, and play to a specially designed blind structure that allows the tournaments to finish earlier without having to affect the average player stack size as the game progresses.
